"Dear Mr. Hopkins,

Is it still possible to register Fonts Manager 3.9.3? I found and downloaded a copy from the Internet recently. When I called Kagi, they told me that this product is no longer available from them.

My husband and I are still using OS 9 for much of our work (because it still works). Between the two of us, our fonts list has grown to an unmanageable size.

I installed Fonts Manager, made some custom font sets and --Voila!-- the fonts menu instantly shrunk. I just have to remember to change sets when changing tasks.

I'm glad this program is still available and would like to make sure you get paid for this copy.

Regards,
"

"As requested, here's my reply to confirm my receipt of the authentication code for my registered copy of Fonts Manager.

Thanks for creating this very useful utility and for making it so affordable. I initially found Fonts Manager on a MacAddict disc and tried it out about a year and a half ago - but at the time I didn't have many fonts and didn't really need it or fully understand what it was for, so I deleted it.

Since then I've amassed a fairly extensive collection of fonts and this month I found myself suddenly understanding how I might want a better font management setup than my copy of Extension Overload would allow. I tracked down Fonts Manager, fired it up and said 'Wow - this is perfect'.

Thanks again - it's well worth the price.

"Mr. Hopkins -
I love your Fonts Manager software! I am the only Mac user in my office, and I easily used up all my budget on graphics software. So it was such a relief to find software like yours, which works well and saves our church a bundle!

"HI!
Thanks - I've run into trouble with too many fonts on my MAC and it sure looks like you've got just what I need to manage them. It'll be a week to ten days before I really try this out as I've got a boat load of stuff to do at the moment but I'm real excited to use your Fonts Manager. I'm an old shareware user from almost two decades ago so I really do like and support this particular software industry. I'm hoping to sell a few other people on using Fonts Manager, where I work, but it may take awhile since they're slow to change.
Meanwhile, I wish you continued success with this software and your other endeavors. It's a pleasure doing business with you.

"Authentication received--
Thanks for the quick response and making the shareware fee painless to pay, not to mention the great software!
*****
WARNING---Unsolicited and "overly-verbose" praise follows...Seeing as you WROTE the software, you obviously recognize its usefulness. This is just incase you have those days where you think people out there don't appreciate shareware software or its developers! You took the time to make your work available, and I'd like to take the time to tell you how it's helped me!
*****
I've always avoided any of the extension based font managers. Over the years I've spent many tedious hours categorizing and organizing my 1000+ font collection to fit MY production purposes. I was a bit skeptical as to whether a commercial product, let alone a shareware product like Fonts Manager would smoothly handle my collection without negating my hours of organizational work or risking my system's stability (which is tenuous enough as it is!) In my former life as a Mac-specific consultant I'd seen the potential risks of software such as Suitcase and did not want to introduce those risks on MY machine.
Now as a self-employed digital media producer, my font collection habit has become more than a hobby. As you know, font choice can set the "feel" or the visual tone of a project. Searching through a collection of 1000+ fonts can take hours/days. I no longer have the time to manually search through all of my hand created sets to remember where I last stored specific fonts.
After a full back-up and a deep breath, I finally tried Fonts Manager out. It only took about 30 minutes, a few tests, and a few reboots to figure out your software would save me time (AND disk space...no more fonts saved in multiple manually created sets. I've already been able to delete at least 100MB of duplicated fonts). I've been using Fonts Manager now for about a week, and as promised, I have not once had to deal with a system crash due to a flaky font management extension. It may be tedious to some users to have to reboot, but in my opinion, I'd prefer to reboot on my own, then have a failed/frozen application force me to not only reboot, but possibly REBUILD my system.
I also recently purchased Font Agent 8. It certainly has it's place in the market as a useful tool to test font integrity. However, I was extremely disappointed that a full-fledged commercial piece of software couldn't incorporate the "font set" management features that your shareware handles so gracefully. Relying only on Font Agent I would still have to manually move my font sets around and keep duplicate fonts in many of the sets.
Sure, I do appreciate having corrupt, mismatched and orphaned font parts rooted out of my system. However, as far as day-to-day use is concerned, Fonts Manager has turned out to be a far more valuable product; a steal at 1/7 of the cost! Efficient font management has allowed me to quickly select specific styles from my sample font sets and create multiple drafts extremely fast. Not only am I happy to pay the small shareware fee, I'd pay it again for each contract that I work on if I had to!
Keep up your development and your commitment to shareware for the Mac platform!

"Dear Mr. Hopkins,

I don't remember when I downloaded your Fonts Manager (3.8), but I believe it was sometime last fall. Sometime later (probably around Christmas time) I installed it and made a couple of font sets. I haven't gone back to it since then and recently had to use it again when I installed my tax software. I then realized that I never sent you a check.
I hope the "better late than never" adage applies here but if I owe you more let me know before/when you send my authorization code. I don't recall the site from where I downloaded it, but I am wondering if you have issued any newer versions since 3.8.

I'm not really sure of any aspect that needs to be upgraded but it would be nice to have an option of creating a "duplicate set" which could then be added to or subtracted from in order to create a slightly different set than the original for a specific task (while still keeping the original set intact).

All I can say is "ditto" to all the accoldates you have received regarding FM. This is the first shareware I have ever downloaded because I was afraid I'd get in to the habit of shareware downloading to the point of spending too much time and money on software that was "neat" or "handy" but didn't really fulfill an actual need for me. All I have to say is that FM is neat, it is handy, and it was exactly what I needed here at home!

"Dear Ed,
YOUR FONTS MANAGER

My Registration Application form and cash is attached. I would be grateful to have Authentication either by snail mail or Email.

Am delighted with product contained on CD with this month's MACWORLD here in UK. Am frustrated Mac user who has run with Symantec Suitcase for a number of years. However, having just upgraded to OS 8.5.1 some very odd things happened and although have talked to Symantec's remaining (and running down) help line, they were unable to help. Say new owner Extensis likely to provide patch 'soon'.

Was struggling until risked trying your package out - CD bits and pieces can be destructive - and found it seems all you promise. Will complain if I have to - later.

Meanwhile, my bank suggest cash is easiest option for both you and me.

Kindest regards and continued success,

This is a great utility! I spent today printing out fonts & putting sets together. Got your site bookmarked.

I TRULY appreciate good documentation! I guess I'm one of those crazy folks who likes to read the manual! The documentation you included with Fonts Manager was easy to follow, clear, and in-depth. It cleared up some font confusion in my head as well as on my Mac!

Looking forward to hassle-free font storage.

I am enclosing payment for Fonts Manager v3.8. As I am not online, I am also enclosing a SSAE for your convenience in sending me a registration code. "Enclosed is a $10 check for Fonts Manager 3.7.4. I read your Fonts Manager mail, and am convinced that I've made the right choice for font management, even though I'm not sure of the scope of the issue - beyond the fact that system startup bogs down when there are too many active fonts - or the different ways the problem is approached. I agree with one of your correspondents that it would be great if you could include an overview of Why is font management a good idea, and maybe some hints or examples of uses. I know you'd do a great job of explaining; I read your discussion of how to do a clean system reinstallation -- even if you are addressing the concerns related to Fonts Manager, your description is the most straightforward I've seen about how to go about doing a reinstall I've seen. I've printed the description to have in my emergency procedures file. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

"Please find enclosed a US $10 money order for Fonts Manager 3.7 (single user fee). Although I have preferred making payments through Kee Nethery in the past, I didn't realize his commission was quite that high. So here is all the money for you, what little there is of it; $10 seems so little to pay for a program that I have been needing for a long time. Fonts Manager is slick, and a good candidate to be part of a future Mac OS (a la Extensions Manager).

"You might want to get some sort of plug onto MacInTouch and such about how Fonts Manager works with (Mac) OS 8 while Symantec's Suitcase doesn't. Especially a byline next to the lists of extensions and utilities that no longer work.

I've been using Suitcase, but I'm very excited about OS 8, and I'm not waiting for Symantec to update Suitcase before I buy the new system. I'm downloading Fonts Manager tonight, and going to CompUSA ... to buy OS 8 tomorrow.

I'm very disappointed with Adobe's new ATM 4.0 Deluxe; some of its features break new ground, but strictly as a fonts management tool, it seems quirky and overly-complicated. I'm hopeful that your newest version of Fonts Manager does the job without ATM's overhead. The $10 fee makes it easy to do the right thing, too. I seem to remember encountering problems with an earlier version of FM, 'bout a year ago (slowness/AppleScript) but I'm ready for a fresh look; I'd dearly love to part with my $10 bucks this time!

"I downloaded Fonts Manager 3.6.2 from the Internet today and have just spent the last few hours trying it out. Maybe I haven't given it a full enough try, but as of now I can't say warmly enough how pleased I am with its performance and the whole concept behind it.

I use an original Mac Classic (68K) with System 7.1 and only 4 megs of RAM, so I'm particularly wary of how much RAM my applications and utilities take up. I happen to believe that truly efficient computing should be done with less RAM, not more, and any font utility that contributes to that end, I'm interested in. I've tried both Suitcase and Master Juggler, and what I get from them usually is system crashes. But Fonts Manager seems to do all the basic set-making I need quickly and correctly and simply. And no, I don't mind restarting the computer to activate different font configurations. Well done, sir.

I would make only one tentative suggestion: for those users who have no experience with font manipulation a brief manual (maybe two or three pages of TeachText) -- in addition to or in place of the Help file -- might be in order.

The licensing agreement for Fonts Manager in the version I have specifies a fee of (only!) $10.00, but I'm enclosing a little extra with my registration, because I think the sharing of such intelligence of design should be rewarded.

Thanks for making my Christmas a little merrier. I hope yours is, too.

"Thanks so much for Fonts Manager. I was extremely frustrated with Suitcase 3.0 & downloaded your program as soon as Guy Kawasaki brought it to my attention."

"Thank you for recently sending me a copy of Fonts Manager 3.5.1 via E-mail. The gesture was very thoughtful and helpful! Having the latest versions when I am evaluating software for purchase is always my preference. I had actually decided to send the fee for Fonts Manager and was in the process of deciding just which computers here actually need it. Enclosed you will find a check for $75.00 and 10 user licenses..."

"I downloaded Fonts Manager the other night & was delighted. It appears to be exactly what I have been looking for to manage my font fetish. Your shareware fee is very reasonable..."
